Remote test setup guide
Linguaskill Remote is taken on your own computer. You cannot start the test until this setup is complete, so please work through the items below as soon as you register.
Complete the technical check at least 24 hours before your test
If the check finds a problem, you need time to sort out new equipment. Korea Cambridge Assessment Centre asks you to finish the check at least 24 hours before your test. You can re-run the check at any time, and no login is needed.
Secure browser
RequirementInstall the secure browser
- Linguaskill runs only inside the Talview Secure Browser. You cannot start the test unless the Secure Browser is installed and open on the day of the test.
- There are separate installers for Windows and Mac. Please download and install it before your test day.
- Once installed, open the browser and run the Diagnostic check to see in advance whether any application would block the test.
- If a restricted application is detected during the test, the system closes it automatically. If it cannot be closed automatically, you must close it yourself before the test resumes.
- On macOS, allow camera, microphone and screen-recording permissions in advance so the browser works correctly.
Technical check

- The check covers four things in order: operating system and browser, internet speed, headphones, and microphone.
- Upload and download speed must stay at 5 Mbps or above at all times. Anything slower may make the test run slowly.
- In the microphone step you speak for five seconds and then play the recording back to check the volume.
- Run the check on the same computer, headset and internet connection you will use for the test.
Computer
RequirementComputer and internet requirements
- Operating system — Windows 11, or macOS 13 (Ventura) and later.
- RAM — 4 GB or more, with at least 2 GB free before the test starts.
- Disk space — 10 GB free, or 10% of total capacity.
- Webcam — 640×480 or better, required on every computer or laptop used for the test.
- Internet bandwidth — 5–10 Mbps upload and download per candidate.
Headset
RequirementHeadset requirements
- Headphones must be over-ear and closed-back, with the earpieces covering the entire ear.
- The microphone must be attached to the headset on a boom (a flexible stalk).
- Use a noise-cancelling microphone, or at minimum a directional one.
- Connection must be USB or a standard stereo jack. Bluetooth headsets are not supported.
- Built-in computer microphones cannot be used. Please disable them before the test.
Environment
Centre guidanceYour test room
- Sit the test alone in a quiet, well-lit room. Nobody else may enter the room until the test is finished.
- Remove any posters, notices or study materials with English text from the room and from view.
- Only these items may be on your desk: photo ID, pen and paper, tissues or medication, and water in a transparent bottle.
- All electronic devices, including your phone, and all clocks and watches must be left outside the room.
- You may use one monitor only. A second monitor must not be in the room, even if it is switched off.
- Breaks are allowed only between modules. You cannot leave your seat while a module is running.
Test day

- Before the test starts you accept the terms and conditions, read the instructions, then share your screen and have your photo taken.
- You must choose to share your entire screen. Sharing only a window or a tab will not let the test proceed.
- If you stop sharing your screen during the test, no result will be issued.
- Moving out of the camera frame, or being only partly visible, is recorded as suspicious behaviour.
- Your ID on test day must be an original and unexpired document. Copies and IDs without a photo are not accepted.
Invigilation
Centre guidanceHow the test is invigilated
- Remote testing uses AI invigilation. You are recorded through your computer's webcam and the AI automatically flags anything that looks suspicious.
- There is no live human proctor watching your screen in real time. Instead, after the test trained reviewers go through every candidate's recording individually and produce an integrity score.
- Anything the AI flagged is then reviewed again by Cambridge, which makes the final decision. The centre records the outcome against your test.
- Remote results are available 6–8 days after the test. If this review flags something, or Cambridge needs to make further checks, your result may not be released for up to 10 days. If you take the test at a centre instead, results are available in 3–5 days.
- AI invigilation recordings are deleted after six months.

- Android devices, including tablets
- Linux
- Chromebooks (the secure browser cannot be installed)
- Built-in computer microphones
- Bluetooth headsets
Where this guidance comes from
Requirements — the secure browser, the technical check and the computer and headset specifications are taken directly from Cambridge's official Linguaskill technical requirements (updated October 2025) and the Metrica user guidance. You cannot sit the test without meeting them.
Centre guidance — the room rules and test-day steps were compiled by Korea Cambridge Assessment Centre from the test-day instructions for Cambridge tests delivered on the same platform (Metrica · Talview). How the test is invigilated and reviewed follows the Linguaskill Standards Manual v6.0, section 1.2, and the result timings follow section 14.0 of the same manual.
