Rules by exam type
Check the section for the exam you are taking. These apply in addition to the rules above.
CEQ paper-based exams
A2 Key · B1 Preliminary · B2 First · C1 Advanced · C2 Proficiency (including for Schools) · paper-based Young Learners
- Bring your own pencils and pens. The exam notice lists what you need.
- Correction fluid, correction tape, and erasable pens are not allowed. Answer sheets are scanned for marking, and correction fluid or tape causes scanning errors.
- For B2 First (not the for Schools version), C1 Advanced, and C2 Proficiency, the centre takes your photo on the exam day. In Asia, including Korea, no result is issued unless that photo is uploaded.
- If your exam requires a test day photo and you are not asked to have one taken, tell the venue staff immediately on the day.
- for Schools exams and Young Learners exams do not require a test day photo.
- The Pre A1 Starters, A1 Movers, and A2 Flyers Speaking test is one-to-one with a Speaking Examiner. A second adult may sit in for reassurance, but that adult cannot be a parent, a relative, or the candidate's English teacher, and must not talk to or help the candidate.
CEQ digital exams
A2 Key to C2 Proficiency taken on a computer · digital Young Learners
- The centre provides the computer. You do not need to bring a device.
- You need three things to log in — a username, a password, and a PIN. The centre gives you these in print on the day.
- Before your first component you must watch the readiness check video and tick the confirmation box.
- The readiness check includes an audio check. If the sound is not clear, tell the invigilator before the exam starts.
- Controls at the top of the screen let you change contrast, text size, and whether the timer is shown.
- Your name is not shown on screen. Click the user icon at the top right to check your details.
- If the computer has a problem during the exam, do not try to fix it yourself — call the invigilator immediately.
Multi-level tests
Linguaskill · Placement Test (CEPT · YLPT)
- These are adaptive tests: the difficulty of the next question depends on your answers. Candidates see different questions, and that is normal.
- Once you move to the next screen you cannot go back. Check your answer before moving on.
- You need a username, a password, and an institution ID (centre number) to log in.
- For Linguaskill, a webcam photo is taken before the test starts. You cannot take the test without completing this check, and it is repeated if you rejoin the test.
- The photo appears on your digital certificate and can be seen by organisations verifying your result.
- A secure browser must be installed. Complete the installation and the technical check before the test day.
- Rough paper and a pen are provided at the venue.
- Remote testing is only available within Korea. If you cannot meet the requirements you cannot start the test, and no refund is given.
- The Placement Test measures your current level for placement purposes and does not lead to a certificate.
