Speaking is a one-to-one, face-to-face interview with an examiner regardless of format.
Test format
Test format by section
- Listening
- About 25 minutes, 5 parts and 25 questions. Each recording is played twice.
- Reading & Writing
- About 40 minutes, 7 parts and 44 questions. Tasks include filling gaps in diaries and letters and writing short stories.
- Speaking
- 7–9 minutes, 4 parts. Tasks include finding differences between two pictures, exchanging information and continuing a story from a sequence of pictures.

Recommended course books include Fun for Flyers (4th Edition), Storyfun for Flyers (2nd Edition) and Power Up. As there is more writing at this level, practise writing short stories and diary entries.
